Dear Ms E. A. Coker MP,

Congratulations to all federal, state and local governments and the community at large, on beating the COVID-19 virus. This was an impressive effort and everyone is feeling grateful for their lives gradually returning to normal.
Your collaborative approach worked with The Department of Health’s informed and assertive approach to this national crisis:

“The Australian Government has put together a team of widely respected clinicians, led by the Chief Medical Officer, to assist with the COVID-19 response. With a huge breadth of experience, these experts will help us manage as effectively as we can the unprecedented health challenges we are facing.”

Australian Dept Health (2020)

The health and safety of the nation was the clear priority with saving and protecting lives foremost. The Governments taking and following advice from the expertise of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC)

“The AHPPC includes all state and territory Chief Health Officers and the Australian Chief Medical Officer chairs the committee. The Australian Government works with states and territories to implement any national response.”

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, AHPPC has directly reported to, and advised,     the National Cabinet to inform the response to the pandemic.”

Australian Dept. Health (2020)

This is the 12th monthly letter ADAC has mailed to you. We seek your support to put climate change action above party politics, utilizing the same non-partisan, informed action so impressively applied to the pandemic. This action is now urgently needed for reducing emissions.

Now, with the tabling of Zali Steggall’s Climate Change Bill 2020 we all hope, that with your help, this Bill can proceed quickly through all required stages to become law. The cost of inaction on climate grows daily, becoming far greater than any cost of action on climate change. This climate problem will need to be addressed now.

ADAC, along with our community made submissions to the House Standing Committee on the Environment and Energy, for the Climate Change Bill 2020. We see the great opportunities this Bill will provide with the establishment of a 20 year plan for future health outcomes, jobs, growth in renewables, industry development and most important, hope, not hopelessness, for the wider community.

With this Bill we ask our parliamentarians to exercise basic Duty of Care to ADAC members and indeed to us all.

Climate science needs to be treated with the same respect and immediate response that was applied to the health science for the amazing COVID-19 efforts.

We thank you all in Canberra for the tabling of the Climate Change Bill 2020 on the 9th November.

Our best wishes for the Summer Holiday break.

Kind Regards

Robert Patterson
